Residents of Cabell, Putnam, and Roane counties asked to report storm damages

State of Emergency declared in three counties due to storms, flooding

CHARLESTON, W.Va.— On Saturday, May 7, 2022, Governor Jim Justice declared a State of Emergency for Cabell, Putnam, and Roane counties due to flooding from storms beginning on Friday, May 6.

If you are a resident of Cabell, Putnam or Roane County and have damages due to these storms, the West Virginia Emergency Management Division requests that you document and report the damages using the damage assessment tool at emd.wv.gov.

  • The Public Assistance survey is used to collect information for any state, county, or local entity, and certain eligible private nonprofits.
  • The Individual Assistance survey is for individuals and households who have had damage to personal property.
  • While businesses are not covered under the IA program, they are encouraged to complete the IA survey. WVEMD will share the information with the Small Business Administration (SBA).
  • If you have questions regarding this process, please contact wvpa@wv.gov.

Reporting these damages is not an application for financial assistance, but the information will be used to help determine eligibility for requesting federal assistance from agencies like FEMA or the SBA.

Citizens who are in need of immediate resources are encouraged to contact their local emergency management agency.
