West Virginia Emergency Management Division, local, federal and private partners hold full-scale exercise in Tucker County
Exercise evaluates responders' ability to coordinate response efforts with diverse agencies
Charleston, W.Va.—The West Virginia Emergency Management Division (WVEMD), Timberline Mountain Resort, and the Canaan Valley Volunteer Fire Department held a full-scale exercise on Sunday, October 16 at Timberline Mountain Resort in Tucker County.
The exercise was set to stress the interaction of private sector, local and state agencies when responding to a catastrophic accident resulting in mass casualties.
In all, 87 first responders and approximately 30 volunteers participated as players in the exercise.
“While the exercise was completed in one day, more than a year of detailed and exhaustive planning by WVEMD, Timberline Mountain Resort, the Canaan Valley Volunteer Fire Department, and other partners have gone into making this exercise a reality," stated WVEMD Deputy Director Matt Blackwood.
“This type of training exercise is essential to support the growth and interoperability of disaster response resources across local, state, and private organizations," WVEMD Director GE McCabe said. “Working in a joint operations setting helps all of us be better prepared to protect the lives and property of our fellow West Virginians when disasters strike."
WVEMD, Timberline Mountain Resort, and the Canaan Valley Volunteer Fire Department would like to thank the following organizations for their participation:
